Post subject: Battle Vs Chess with Windows 7?
PostPosted: Tue Sep 28, 2010 3:32 pm
I was a sucker for the animated delights of the old Battle Chess program back in the day, so I'm pleased to see that Battle Vs Chess (which is not an update, of course  ) is due out soon.

But despite my best efforts, I haven't been able to find out yet if it will work my 64-bit Windows 7 pc. I know a few other people who are wondering the same thing. Can anyone shed some light?

Thanks! :)

I dunno (I looked around and can't find the answer either), but here's the company's site; maybe the tech support people can answer:

http://www.southpeakgames.com

I see that it uses the Fritz11 engine. I can't wait until I start getting tech support questions on it.

Thanks Steve, I've contacted them. Re: Tech Support, I guess my question has started the ball rolling!

Hi,

ChessCentral is working to get the download. This program was supposed to be out months ago, so I think there must be glitches. I will update you as soon as we recieve either the download or teh DVD.

Sure looks like a fun program!

Yes, the delays are a concern, but hopefully that means everything is being sorted out.
The customer support replied to me that they don't support products that haven't yet been released! so I guess I'll have to wait to find out if it will work with Win 7.

Many thanks!

The combat clips from Star Wars Battle Chess. Funny stuff.

According to their site you can "pre-order" it. http://www.battlevschess.com/en/

Yes but as you can tell from the date of the first post we've been expecting it for a while. The pre-order form has been up since early September of last year as far as I know. Amazon used to have a pre-order for it also but a recent search on their site does not even list 'Battle Vs Chess'.

Just wondering if it has been delayed or not.

Sadly, Battle vs Chess is on indefinite hold due to Interplay's copyright infringment injunction against Southpeak. If the game ever does see the light of day (as I very much hope it will), I would expect it to appear under a new name entirely.

Thanks for the info. That's a great shame. How did you find out?

A lot of digging and Googling, but search for the words Topware, Interplay, and Chess, and you'll likely find some links to articles ~ and at one time even the court filings themselves. Interplay went after Topware a few months ago and won an injunction.

What a shame, I was really looking forward to playing this game.

Thanks for the research! I have been weekly trying to find that product. It was listed in many software supply houses as coming soon and recently it just disappeared. Now I know why. That answers my biggest question of why it was so cheap.

Really is too bad! I too was looking forward to an action packed chess game.
