This isn't a review (but if you have this set, review away!), but I found this interesting.

A chess set nearly a thousand years old brings more visitors to ChessCentral's blog than any other Internet engine search terms. Can you guess what set it is?

It's a great looking set isn't it. Makes you want to know more about the designer...I guess we'll never know!

I don't own one of these (yet) but I've loved the Isle of Lewis set for a long time. It was written up in chess magazines all the time back in the 1980's/1990's (and this was pre-Potter).

My guess as to the creator? A monk carved 'em, prior to the place being sacked by Vikings. (At least that's how it plays out in my head) :lol:
