Shirov, after four games at the Tal Memorial, has managed just a single draw:

He does seem to be a streaky player. Those who live by the sword, die by the sword!

Sure, I agree, but play through the Moscow games. He wasn't even doing anything especially off-the-wall; in fact, I thought the games were fairly dry. He'd get to a decent endgame and then - splat. Freakin' weird... :?

Yeah, it makes me wonder just how much of chess is down to luck and/or confidence.

Another weird thing: ChessBase was covering the event through Round Four, then suddenly: blap! Nada. Nary a word. And I can't follow what's going on at the official site because I don't read Russian. :x

Shirov has always been one of my favorite players, because of his aggressive and daring style at the chess board, as well as his humble and likable personality. It's terrible to see him have such a poor performance.

Well Shirov has been playing chess non stop since September: Spanish Team Championship, Shangai, Chess Olympiad, Bilbao, European Club Cup, Unive in Holland and now Tal memorial, that are 7 strong tournaments. His brain must be short circuited in this moments, he even did not want to participate in the World Blitz Championship.
