This, in my opinion is a very nice win in the QGA, which transposes into a slav line.

I play white.

1. d4 d5 2. c4 dxc4 3. Nf3 c6 4. e3 Be6 5. Nbd2 Qa5 6. Be2 Nf6 7. O-O b5 8. a4
All seems fairly normal up to here.
Nbd7 This just looked ugly to me after Ng5 ideas.
Interestingly in the game GM Farago vs GM Starostits 9.h3 was played here, which looks inferior to my 9.Ng5
9. Ng5 Bf5 runs into trouble (as shown in the text) but there are no other bishop moves, no pieces can moved to defend and all 10.Nxe6 fxe6 lines look fairly ugly for black so this is probably best.
10. e4 Bg6 11. e5 Nd5 12. e6 fxe6 Nxe6 looked good for white, but I felt there had to be something better. 13. Bh5 There, it is I believe that white has a won game from here. e5 Probably blacks best try, Bxh5 looked to lead to an unpleasant loss 14. Bxg6+ hxg6 15.
Qg4
Either knight to f6 is met by Qe6 Rh5 16. Ndf3 exd4 17. Ne6 Kf7 18. Neg5+ Ke8 19. Qe6 Rxg5 20. Qxc6 Rf5 21.
Qxa8+ Qd8 22. Qxd8+ Kxd8 23. Nxd4
Black stares at the board for about 10 mins, darting a few angry looks at me and then flicks his king at me and leaves. 1-0

To me the move 11. ...Nd5 is more of a culprit for black. It leaves f7 vulnerable for attack, while 11... h6 12. exf6 hxg5 13. fxg7 Bxg7 simply leads to a better position for black. OTOH 12. Nxf7 might have done some harm too.
But finally I think it comes down to the move you already indicated as ugly, 8...Nbd7. isloating the bishop and enabling white's pawn to advance without a simple countermeasure from black's pawn center. It seems black didn't read his opening manual :)

Nice win indeed. A central pawn storm is always fun.

I have unfortunately been on the receiving end of moves like Ng5 (or Ng4 when I am playing white), as I tend to blace bishops on places like e6 (or e3, when playing white). Because of this I am a regular user of pawn f3, before playing Be3.

thanks for sharing the game
