 Post subject: Paleface Attack?!
PostPosted: Sat May 31, 2008 10:50 am
Just had a rather strange move played against me on Chessworld.net, in what I was hoping would be a nice Kings Indian Defence (I'm black).

1. d4 Nf6
2. f3?!

It seems pretty unsound to me and I can't really see a point to the move, except maybe to support 3.e4 - so I went for the obvious 2...d5 to stop this.

Any thoughts?

Not sure where the name of the attack comes from - to be fair I think Chessworld makes half of them up  I imagined some Cowboy playing it against an Indian "What the hell have you played here Paleface?!"

Could be that you started an indian defense this is the paleface attack against indians. Sounds stupid but that is the only explanation i could think of. By the the way there is some sort of anti gruenfueld (not really that much anti) 1.d4 Nf6 2. c4 g6 3. f3

I often play the Blackmar-Diemer Gambit (1 d4 d5 2 e4 de 3 Nc3 Nf6 4 f3). 1 d4 Nf6 2 f3 tries to "trick" Black into playing into the BDG. I'm always happy when Black plays 2...d5, because I then play 3 e4, and after 3...de 4 Nc3 I'm into my favorite gambit!

I don't think he had any of that planned, the game ended in a fools mate if I remember right
