Post subject: Books on the Catalan?
PostPosted: Sun May 25, 2008 12:50 pm
I’ve decided to give this opening a go after having a look at some games on Chessbase – it looks like a Kosten English, but with a much more solid centre. Only slight problem is, it can transpose into a Queens Gambit, which I hate playing.

I’m just trying to find a book on the opening, but very surprisingly my Google search doesn’t seem to be turning any (in English at least) up. I was just wondering if someone could recommend one?

I have an old Batsford book by Kasparov and Keene which has a few pages dedicated to the skeletal main lines of the opening (with no analysis) but that’s it.

As my London System rather got a showing up at my new Chess club last night   I’d like to pull something a bit more dynamic out of the hat for next week :D

Hi!

You may try this one: "Winning with the Catalan"(Paperback), by Angus Dunnington, which is at sale for US 11,00 (Amazon).

Greetings.

Bono

I recommend the next books:

1. Winning with the Catalan (Angus Dunnington)
2. The Catalan (Raetsky)
3. The Queen's gambit: Catalan for black (Lasha Janjgava)
4. Play the Catalan (J. Neishtadt)

This books are in http://www.ecochess.com/e00e99/e00e09.htm
I see you later

I’ve never got on well with the Trompowsky for some reason - If I was going to do that sort of thing I’d go for a Torre Attack, or maybe a London System if I was feeling lazy. 1.d4 is my standard opening as White now, but I do find it rare that anyone will invite the Queens Gambit with 1…d5 (which is what I’m always hoping for).
