Post subject: Problem with ChessBase Full Analysis
PostPosted: Wed May 16, 2012 4:52 pm
I have ChessBase 9. I have seen in tutorials instructions for doing a game analysis by selecting Tools->Full Analysis but my Tools menu does not have this item. I have tried it with and without the CD inserted. I have a database open and a game highlighted in the Game List window when I try this. What am I doing wrong?

Hi Foxontherun,

Chessase is a database program, for storing and searching games, and maybe analyzing certain moves. The Fritz interface (chess playing programs) do have that feature. You can analyze a game "by hand", move by move with an installed chess engine, but no automated analysis. That's reserved for the playing program interfaces like Fritz, Junior, Hiarcs, Rybka etc.

The Fritz engine is included as a kibitzer in Chessbase 9, but are you saying I'll need to purchase Fritz separately to do the automated analysis?

As Jeroen points out, it is actually the Fritz interface (GUI) which does the analysis using a chess engine (Fritz).

So, yes, you will need to have one of the "Fritz family" programs which include the interface and a chess engine -- Fritz, Rybka, Shredder, etc.

Hope this is clear.

Bill
