Hi,

There is a link on the website http://www.chesscentral.com/Member/freesoftware.htm
to a free Chess OCR program called: chess scan Intelligent.
To be able to get book diagrams into my computer for analysis

But it seems like the link doesn't work anymore.
Is there anyone ho knows where I can download it please.
Or is there someone ho has it ore know someone ho has it, and can that person please sent it to me?
Preferable the latest Version 0.8b from April 28, 2006

My email address is cremersjonathan@hotmail.com
I would be very thankful.
Or dos anyone knows some similar program or maybe a better on?

Regards, Jonathan

Try the wayback machine, maybe it has a workable link somewhere, like

http://web.archive.org/web/200610051930 ... sScan.html
http://web.archive.org/web/200607210338 ... nload.html

And if not you could always try and wait for a week or so to see if the domain fee for fairychess.com is being paid and up again.

Hi, Jeroen
Thank you very much for the links, they work.
But now I have an other problem.
Chess Scan Intelligent is an executable jar file, but I cant get it to work.
I have used the program before so I know it should work fine.
I get the error message "invalid or corrupt jar file", when I double click on it.
I think there is noting wrong with the file but it must have something to do with the java version on my laptop or some sort of configuration.
I have tried to install some older versions of java on my laptop but with no good results.
Dos anyone have any Idea how I can solve this problem please?

Regards, Jonathan

I've downloaded it myself and got the same message. I know newer java releases are a bit more strict in regard to upper and lower case filenames.

But anyhow, it should be possible to open a jar file with an unzip utility based on ZLIB. I tried it with winzip and I got an error message, so I assume the file is indeed corrupt.

Have you tried mailing the author with the email address on the pages above? You could try GerhardTrippen@gmail.com.

You're welcome, glad to see that resolved. Thanks for the offer, but with me it's the reverse: my club mates always send me copy for our chess club bulletin _without_ the diagram - I always have to create them myself. I wish I had the luxury of them sending diagrams to me..... :)

I have also been looking for a chess OCR program and went through the same issues as the original poster, with similar lack of success. Any further information on this program (Chess Scan) or other chess OCR software would be appreciated.

In passing, if more publishers would publish their books in Chessbase format, as Everyman is doing, I would gladly by the electronic copies. I hope that catches on.

I know this is ressurecting an old thread but...

I have downloaded the last version of Chess Scan intelligent, v 0.8b

CSint.jar is from April 28, 2006

It reports Java errors when starting with a recent java version, specifically 1.6.0 v33

Does the "fixed" version Jonathan/Hetenbliksem mentioned work better?
If it does work better, does trying to port something to an android phone seem like a good idea?
Is the "fixed" version available anywhere?

Thanks,
D

Hi,

Have you tried contacting the developer?
