I think there is a mistake here (its a chess mentor exercise)

Since after the continuation states white can mate with Qxf7

If the queen goes to f7 why couldn't the king go to h7?

It's 1. Re8 Rfxe8 2. dxe8Q+ Rxe8 3. Qxf7+ Kh7 4. Qxg7# or 1. Re8 Rdxe8 2. dxe8Q Qe6 3. Qexe6 fxe6 4. Qg6 Rf7 5. Rxf7 a6 (or
whatever move) and 6. Qxg7#

Weird mistake, 1. Re8 is indeed the winning move AFAICS.

I think 1. Re8 Qd6 2. Rc8 Nc6 (or Nb7) 3. h3 g6 looks to me the only way to avoid mate.
