So apparently this move is wrong as black draws with Bxd4+Kh1 Rf8 and somehow Ne4 is forced to which Black plays Re2

I don't see why it is necessary to move the knight white can defend against mate on the 7th rank (or perpetual check) by g4.

After 1.Rh5 Bxd4+ 2.Kh1 Rf8 the suggested 3.g4?! does not appear sufficient after 3...Rf3!(threat 4...Rxh3#). Then saving the bishop by, say, 4.Bd7 allows the rook doubling on the second row anyway.
