Post subject: Dealing with early wing pawns (rook pawns)
PostPosted: Sat Feb 02, 2013 4:29 am
I often face players that use an early wing pawn move to blunt my early knight, bishop moves.
How to I deal with this? Have been trying center development. Have not seen discussions on this.
Thanks in advance.

This is basically a "pawn pushers" problem. Pawn pushers play aggressive but they often weaken their pawn structures. Try to block the advanced pawns with your own and target the weak fields crated by this pushing forward. Adapt your tactics to the weakness of your opponent, not to the supposed rules of development. An advanced pawn can't go back and forth, a rook, knight or bishop can.
Weakened flanks expose the king and compromise its safety. Take advantage, step by step. Remember that the most advanced pawns have to be defended by pawns a few ranks down. Those are the weak spots.

Thanks for your answer, have tried this somewhat,
but lack of sucess is my fault.
I often play both sides of the Two Knights opening,
those wing pawns ruin my day.
