(http://bit.ly/mc4jxg for a picture) Today I visited the Van Abbe Museum in Eindhoven. As part of the research project Connecting I found this chess board somewhere in between exhibits. The intention is to play one move and indicate the next side to move by switching the red stick (left). The next v...

? Hello, I'm new so sorry if this is in the wrong place. Basically, whenever I play chess, whenever I pin the knight to the queen by using my bishop like in the following: 1.e4 e5 2.d4 Knf6 3.Bg5, or similar (sorry about my notation, I haven't played in a while), my opponent always plays 3...h6. Th...

Here's a fun game between my Galaxy S smartphone with ShredderChess against Fritz 12 on my laptop. A p8400 processor against a 1GHz Samsung Hummingbird processor. [Event "Blitz 10m+1s"] [Site "?"] [Date "????.??.??"] [Round "?"] [White "ShredderChess"...

"It was the chess match of the century. Harry Benson, author of a new book about the late, troubled champion, recalls his friend’s battle against Spassky, in this week’s Newsweek. I got along with Bobby Fischer because I knew nothing about chess. Bobby thought anyone who knew about chess was a...

A slick device, no doubt. It works great, intuitive and it easily passes the two-year-old test: toddlers understand operation in less than a minute. I'd wish all computers were that user friendly as Apple's creations, but alas. It lacks flash support, which some people say is typical for Apple to ma...

This, in my opinion is a very nice win in the QGA, which transposes into a slav line. I play white. 1. d4 d5 2. c4 dxc4 3. Nf3 c6 4. e3 Be6 5. Nbd2 Qa5 6. Be2 Nf6 7. O-O b5 8. a4 All seems fairly normal up to here. Nbd7 This just looked ugly to me after Ng5 ideas. Interestingly in the game GM Farag...

If it's a first edition you can tell from the cover pages, I guess. The book was first published in 1976, by Sutton indeed.

Welcome to the forum. We've been around for almost eight years now so there's a lot to find here. Sadly a few outages (by hackers) have reduced the number of postings, but there's still more left than to gobble up in a few visits :)

Enjoy your repeated visits at the Chess Exchange!

I upgraded Fritz 12 to version 17. In the options dialog you can change the notation from d2-d4 to d4. When I close Fritz and then run it again it defaults back to d2-d4. Is there a way to make my options permanent so I don't have to change it every time I run Fritz? I haven't found the location wh...

Yes, the games I play against Fritz 12 are not being autosaved. I have deceided to manually save the games I am interested in reviewing. Thx, Ed Apart from a corruption of the database or program there's only one other option: you specified another database to automatically store your games in. In ...

The games I play against Fritz 12 are not being saved in autosave.cbh data base on the program but rather are being saved to Myinternet tactics database. How do I activate or implement autosave? Note, the autosave data base did not appear in the Fritz data base location until I used Fritz for sever...

I am happy you found the upgrade in a "folder". I have not been so lucky. Would you reveal where it is? My download folder shows nothing-strange. Thanks much. Bill Try and have a look in your user folder, like C:\Users\YOURNAME\AppData\Roaming\ChessBase\Updates If the folder is invisible,...
