Another weird thing: ChessBase was covering the event through Round Four, then suddenly: blap! Nada. Nary a word. And I can't follow what's going on at the official site because I don't read Russian. :x

Sure, I agree, but play through the Moscow games. He wasn't even doing anything especially off-the-wall; in fact, I thought the games were fairly dry. He'd get to a decent endgame and then - splat. Freakin' weird... :?

Shirov, after four games at the Tal Memorial, has managed just a single draw:

Well, it does still work -- it just works a little bit differently than in previous versions. (Sorry, I'd not fooled with this feature yet when I replied earlier). When you grab and move a pane you'll see several possible docking locations "ghosted" (superimposed) on the screen, Click on t...

I'm not a trained physician, but it looks to me like a case of Fischeritis, last diagnosed in 1993 when Kasparov developed a bad case of it just before forming the PCA.

Sorry I didn't reply sooner -- I've been pretty busy the last couple of weeks. I think you're on the right track here. I used to teach 11-14 year olds back in the day, and I tried to make it a 25/75 split: 25% instruction and 75% playing. Kids that age are usually very eager to play/compete with eac...

I think you just need to switch up a little and do puzzles from multiple sources -- though the fact that you're finding them "predictable" could be a sign that your tactical eye is getting sharper.

ChessBase offers a variety of "modular" chess playing programs (called "engines"), but why would you need more than one chess engine? ChessCentral columnist Steve Lopez offers one reason (of many) in this article on the "Compare analysis" feature found in the Fritz and ...

Thanks for the reply Steve. The problem is that the mouse cursor doesn't change to resemble a hand, so as i can reposition the panes. I use Chessbase 10 and there is no problem there repositioning the panes and saving the layouts. Did you try it on Fritz 12 and is working? Sorry, it doesn't turn in...

I still don't know why the reboots happened only with the rybka. I mean I used other chess engines which stressed the pc with 100% cpu usage but never got a reboot in these occasions. Well, if I was one of those ubiquitous Rybka fanboys on all the computer chess message boards I'd say, "It's b...

Just drag the panes to where you want them (the mouse cursor changes to resemble a hand, meaning that you can reposition them). Then save the layout (View/Default Layout/Save)
